Moms, dads and kids
of all ages, each filled
with Yuletide glee,
braved the arctic
80° Florida winter
and converged on
the Viera Regional
Community Center
for a weekend-long
holiday celebration
the 29th Annual
Festival of Trees.

Sponsored by the Junior League of South Brevard, the annual Festival of Trees took place on Saturday  and Sunday, November 16th and 17th. Kicking off at 10AM each day, the event boasted dozens of full-size trees, approximately 50, 2-4-footers, plus an array of wreaths and other fabulous holiday-related items.

I loved the Hello Kitty tree!
The League is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, to developing the potential of women and to improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable.

The event attracted estimated crowds totaling in the thousands over the two days. Proceeds benefit the League's various community projects. All monies raised reportedly stay in Brevard County.

There literally was something for everybody  — from live music to vendors offering an assortment of tasty treats, arts, crafts and services to the spectacular wall-to-wall trees. Even Ray Michaels and the gang from 98.5 The Beach were on-hand, keeping the party rockin' outdoors while offering folks spins on the station's infamous prize wheel. I also was stoked to run into my old friend and award-winning saxophonist, Steve Mazzi who had performed earlier in the morning with his group, The Horizons band.

Chillin' w/ Steve Mazzi at the 2013 Festival of Trees.

Kudos to the folks from the League. They all were extremely friendly and gracious — allowing me (and my trusty camera) full run of the joint. And as an "Average Joe" member of the local community who thoroughly enjoys this annual event, I want to extend my personal thanks to the wonderful sponsors for helping the League in making the 2013 Festival of Trees possible. And I'm already looking forward to next year's celebration!
